Members may be aware that it is proposed to hold a Model Engineering, Model Making, and Hobbies Exhibition at the Bath & West Showground, Shepton Mallet on the weekend after our exhibition in April 2008. It has been suggested that we might contribute to this show or even perhaps amalgamate our own exhibition with it, as should we become overshadowed by what is intended to be a superior event at the same time of year, then we could suffer from a loss of traders and visitors who might be diverted away from us. Bearing in mind that the proposed show is intended to become an ongoing commercial attraction, your Committee considered that our involvement would not be in line with our constitution or our attitude to the hobby, and we have declined to take part. We are in touch with our opposite numbers at East Somerset SMEE who are based at the Shepton Mallet showground (and who tell us that they had to ask what was being planned in the absence of any direct contact by the organisers), and that they have decided that they may co-operate on the day but independently and without financial involvement. If you have any views on this, then please write to the Editor.

Preparations are going reasonably well with several useful traders already stating that they are coming and others are expected to confirm soon. Keep an eye on the website as traders‘ names will be posted on this as soon as they confirm their attendance. What would make my life a lot easier would be for you to come to me within the next few weeks to tell me what models you have to exhibit. We are looking for a wide selection of items that will be of interest to the visitors, be they model engineers or people who would like to see the craftsmanship that exists in the club. We are looking for interest, not perfection. A plain bit of work to you may be the eureka factor for someone else. If what you have requires a stand to give a full picture of what you are doing then please let me know. We will have some extra space this year with a re-arrangment of the main hall. If the items are very small, again let me know as we can arrange for them to be put into showcases.

I really do look forward to hearing from you.

Bruce Nottrodt, Exhibition Manager.
