I am surprised that I have received no comment at all from members about our subscription rate following the publication of the letter in the last issue of this magazine and my Editorial remarks about it. You will recall that it was said that our subscription was very modest for the benefits that members received. I have since completed just a little research on the subject myself, and with the fifteen Clubs that I looked at, the highest annual subscription was £38 whilst the lowest was just £15. The average of the fifteen comes out at £24.83. but I do not know if I am comparing like with like as members of other Clubs may not receive the same benefits as we do but it is food for thought. I am sorry that the black and white pictures in the last issue of the “Oily Rag” did not come out as well as those in the previous issues. May I remind members that the “Oily Rag” can also be found on the Club’s Website and that all of the pictures there are in colour. For those with computers, it is worth a look and my thanks go to Mark for doing such a fine job for us. I should also like to remind members that we have two “out of season” steamingsthe Santa Specials! We shall need locomotives at Vivary Park on the 16th December and at Creech on the 22nd December together with some helpers. If you can come along, then please let Gerry Willis know as soon as possible. The mystery picture on the back cover of the last issue of the “Oily Rag” showed the Chairman getting close to the subject during a Boiler Inspection. There were no correct answers and all facetious suggestions were appreciated - but discounted! Tony |
