| The first running day of the 2009 Season was Easter Sunday but still just using the original track circle. There was a good turnout of both steam and electric locomotives and they coped admirably with the large number of passengers that we carried. As always, my thanks go to all the members in attendance who helped and supported us.
During the last three months, the work has continued on the extension and it was all but complete at the time of the Easter Sunday running day. Once Easter Sunday was behind us, we then broke into the original track circle and installed the final pillars so that the new and old tracks could be joined up into one much larger circle of approximately 800ft. The completed extended track was inspected by our professionally qualified Chairman and has been signed off by him as safe for all public running. At the time of writing, we still have to decide on an official opening day for it but we did give some 400 rides on it on Sunday 3rd May and the extended track met with the very full approval of our regular passengers. There has been a regular gang of members in attendance building the extension, but I must particularly mention and thank Maurice and Mark Hartnell for all the preparatory work that they did in making and installing the pillars, cutting and machining the sleepers so that the whole exercise could go ahead as smoothly as it did, Andy Cooke for taking three days’ holiday so that he could do all the track welding and also Phil Mortimer for the quiet leadership that he took during the whole exercise. I hope that all the other members of the gang will forgive me for not mentioning them personally but my thanks also go to them for taking part in what has been a very satisfying exercise.
